Files Shared by Our Members

All of the files and images below have been created or images by members of the Iowa Great Lakes Astronomical Society. You will see that a great number of images and video has been contributed by Steve Timmons, who has been at this for quite some time. I have decided to give him his own section because of this. Note: Some files may be very large.

An 8 Day moon

"The 8-day moon pictures were shot at a focal length of 3048mm @ f/10. The camera was a Canon EOS 400D xTi. At that focal length, the moon would not fit on the imaging chip, so I stitched two separate but overlapping photos together." - Steve Timmons

Barn

"The barn shot was shot just before dawn at the observatory (which shall remain in an undisclosed location). Capella, "the Kids," and the entire constellation of Auriga are directly above the barn. Aldeberan and the Hyades form the V-shape lying on its side directly under the moon. Bellatrix in Orion can be seen rising just above the building on the right." - Steve Timmons

halebop

"This is a photo I took in 1997 when Hale-bopp was here.  This is a 3+ minute exposure on ASA 400  Fuji Film. I used a homemade tracking device from plans in Astronomy Magazine. I was using my Pentax Spotmatic with a 50mm lens. I have adjusted the color on my computer.  The line going through the comet head is the navigation lights from an airplane. In the lower left corner. -Kenneth Ebeling

The Moon, Venus, and Jupiter in conjunction in 2008

"This image was taken with a Samsung digicam on a tripod. I can't remember all the settings used. The image shows the December 1, 2008 conjunction of the moon, Jupiter, and Venus." - Adam Dietrick
